Creeped out by Snickers

13 Oct

Snickers released a commercial for this Halloween season that ended up going viral. According to an article in Riverfront Times Blog section: Lauren Nodzak, public-relations manager for Mars Chocolate North America, which manufactures Snickers, said the ad is geared toward moms who “want to impress during Halloween and provide the best costumes, candy and hospitality”. She goes on to say that it was developed as a creative way to remind moms to buy Snickers because it’s the chocolate candy that all the kids are asking for.

If you ask me, this commercial is just downright creepy! Snickers may have not gotten the point that across that Nodzak said was intended for the commercial. However, they definitely created a buzz and that is what every PR company hopes for. What do you think of this?

Great post! I actually just saw this Snickers commercial this morning in the cafe and it truly is creepy! In fact, some of the other students around me mentioned that it was weird. Sometimes strangest commercials are the most effective. They are memorable and get people talking. Even though this commercial is pretty creepy, it is that element that helps people remember the product. Although I don’t see how this ad is supposed to show moms that Snickers is the best choice for Halloween candy, it is still effective. Snickers keeps coming with funny, interesting advertisements, with the Betty White commercial being the last one.
